Hurtigruten introduces Northwest Passage sailing for 2023

Hurtigruten’s Roald Amundsen will call at Vancouver, Nome, Ilulissat, Sisimiut, Red Bay, Corner Brook and Halifax as part of its new 26-day Northwest Passage sailing departing August 18, 2023.

Ambitious itinerary

‘Following a year of lockdowns, we know from our customers that their appetite for exploration certainly hasn’t dwindled.’


The expedition cruise takes passengers from the Gold Rush town of Nome in Alaska through the Bering Strait, Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea, and the Amundsen Gulf, before arriving at Halifax.

The ship will navigate ice floes and islands, offering opportunities to spot polar bears, whales and seals.

Local histories and cultures will be explained by on board experts who will choose locations along the route to arrange escorted landing and small boat cruising for onshore exploration.

Specialists in biology and wildlife, as well as an archaeologist, one or more Inuit cultural interpreters and a professional photographer will be present on board the vessel.

Hybrid power

Hosting 500 guests, Roald Amundsen is a battery hybrid-powered expedition cruise ship – the first vessel of its kind in the world.

It features an innovative battery hybrid propulsion system, together with other green technology to reduce fuel consumption and cut CO2 emissions by 20%.

Onboard, guests can expect a welcoming and comfortable environment in the public spaces and personal cabins and are spoilt for choice when it comes to where to dine, with restaurants Aune, Fredheim and Lindstrøm serving Norwegian and Nordic tradition, as well as international cuisine and local inspiration.
